Spring 2017
Imagine-IT Implementation
As we move forward, blooming into spring my students are also blooming in their math knowledge. One thing I would have like to change is being more effective in my time with my students. I have had to reteach certain skills and that has put us a little behind then where I would like to be.
My students are reviewing their math skills through technology they are problem solving a variety of math problems and are able to see some of the patterns in math. We started creating memes using language arts terms that seemed to be easier and more achievable for my students. It took them a few days on creating memes and to the point where they felt comfortable displaying their work.
We then started to look for continuity in math problems and think of how to problem solve, some of this has become easier for some of my students while other found it challenging.
My class went to the museum of Science and Industry and participated in the Innovation Studio. It was such a great activity. Students had to look at a problem, brainstorm a solution and then create a Prototype Sketch and then the actual figure. It was amazing to see my students’ creation. We also discuss how this fits into math and that they can use what they already know to look for a solution.
As we move forward the activities will become more rigorous as we started slowly build a solid foundation. My ImagineIT project was for my students to see patterns and math and the continuity of how math all fit together. My students participated in problem solving activities and think of way to solve a problem through observation and then brainstorm through this problem. We have does this through Math Talk and seen different way to solve a problem and execute their steps. In math we must do the same observe what do we need to do. What information do we know and how will we execute to problem solving.
